1832-1838

 

1832 Silas Hawley, land agent was the first blacksmith. His shop was on the East side of the river near the old Catholic Church.
1835 Jeremiah Reynolds migrated from Canada.
1836 Ezekiel French settled in what is now South Colton (formerly Three Falls), locating in the Cold Brook section.
1837 The first sawmill was built in South Colton by Edward Crary of Pierrepont, on the village site purchased by Christopher Ripley.

Hiram Leonard settled in Colton from Pierrepont.

The first Post Office was established in Colton June 17 with William Stark as Postmaster.

Edson Crary of Pierrepont built the first South Colton Sawmill.
1838 Simon Butler, proprietor of Wild Lands, came from Vermont.
