1950-1959

 

1950 The new Colton-Pierrepont Central School was ready for students.
1951 Construction of the $33,000,000.00 Racquette River Power Development by Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation was started with clearing of approximately 3,300 acres of the Hollywood and Stark areas for Carry Falls Reservoir.

The Hollywood Inn, rich in history, was dismantled and removed.

Carry Falls Dam construction was started.

The South Colton Fire District was formed and designated Colton #2.
1953 Carry Falls Dam was completed in January. The South Colton Dam was completed in June.
1955 Five Falls Dam was completed in April.
1956 Rainbow Dam was completed in April.
1957 The Niagara Mohawk Power Project was finished with the completion to the Stark Falls plant in September.

A bond issue of about $477,000.00 was voted for and addition to the school. Construction was begun by Frechette and Clough, Tupper Lake.
1959 The new Town of Colton Highway Building on Route #56 above South Colton was completed.
