Transfer Station Permit
Colton + South Colton residents are able to obtain a Transfer Station ("dump") permit sticker if there is an eligible dwelling on the property, the fee is included in the annual land taxes. The Transfer Station is located on Lenny Road in Colton, past Pleasant Mound Cemetery and open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8a - 5p.
Residents are able to register for a sticker at the Town Hall Clerk's Office during normal business hours, please bring a valid ID with you showing the address you wish to register the dump permit and be prepared to designate if you are a year-round or seasonal resident. Only one sticker will be issued per property.
Note:
Land owners with dwellings are able to use the Transfer Station, only with a permit.
No renters or empty lots will be issued a permit.
No commercial hauler trash is allowed.
If someone other than the property owner will be taking trash to the dump for the residence, contact the Town
Clerk for special instructions.
Only Colton + South Colton residents are able to use the Transfer Station - absolutely NO outside
township trash is allowed.
Hours are adjusted if a federal holiday falls on a "Dump Day", all updates will be posted to the Town of Colton's Facebook Page.

DEC License
All DEC licenses are able to be obtained through their online portal HERE. DEC licenses are also able to be obtained through the Town Clerk's office during hours of operation.
Be Advised: As of August 1, 2024 the DEC is transitioning to paper licenses and tags. It will be the licensee's responsibility to place the documents in a waterproof holder.
Fishing Licenses are able to be carried electronically, hunters will need are required to have their physical license
on them during all hunting activities.
Dog Registration
In accordance with New York State Law, each resident is required to register their dog in the town they reside, and registration must be renewed annually.
It is the resident's responsibility to know and renew their dog's registration.
A dog can only be registered once they've received their rabies vaccination. For more details on the law and the fee structure info visit our DOG WARDEN page.
Handicap Parking Permit
Only Colton or South Colton residents may obtain a handicap parking permit from the Town Clerk's office.
CLICK HERE for the instructions and form to be completed by the applicant and the applicant's doctor. During office hours, bring the completed form to the Town Clerk. The appropriate temporary or permanent permit will be issued to the applicant free of charge.
Be advised: As of July 25, 2024, A SEVERELY DISABLED PERSON WHO CURRENTLY HAS A PERMANENT PARKING PERMIT FOR A PERMANENT DISABILITY LAW VTL LAW 404-A(4) SHALL NOT BE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT AN UPDATED MEDICAL CERTIFICATION OR ADDITIONAL MEDICAL DOCUMENTS WHEN APPLYING TO RENEW THE PARKING PERMIT.
Permanent disabilities that do not fall under that law are still required to obtain a new form from their Doctor.

Marriage License
Any person can obtain a marriage license through the Town Clerk's Office if they intend to get married anywhere in New York State. The license is only valid for 60 days, if the ceremony does not take place during that time a new license will need to be issued.
Requirements for Each Person on the License:
The $40 processing fee can be paid via cash, money order, card (with a 3.5% fee), or a check to the Town of Colton. Be advised, if a license is redone due to being outside of the 60 day window, the fee will be charged again.
Once married, the certificate must be signed by the officiant, witnesses, and the married couple - the officiant is responsible for returning the form to the office it was issued at following the ceremony. Licenses can be dropped off in person or mailed to:

The certified marriage certificate will then be produced by the Registrar (Town Clerk) and mailed to the married couple.
