The town's Tourism & Beautification Committee periodically holds barn quilt classes and painting sessions. Classes provide participants with an overview as well as hands-on activities, covering SUPPLIES and BASIC STEPS (click words to open sample handouts), over a three-day period.
Classes are now held primarily at Colton-Pierrepont Central School in support of the town-school collaborative 'Art Around Town' project which features barn quilts. In the past, however, classes have been held in Norwood and elsewhere. Slideshows of photos are available HERE for sessions held in Norwood in April 2016 and HERE for South Colton in October 2016.
Other groups and communities in St. Lawrence County and the Adirondack North Country region of New York State also are part of the growing barn quilt movement in the United States. Click HERE to see photos taken from 2014 through March 2016. Additional coverage of the growing barn quilt movement in the town of Colton as well as St. Lawrence County is available under Announcements below.
