john stone memorial nature trail

The town's John Stone Memorial Nature Trail is located along Pleasant Street / County Route 58 between State Highway 56 and Riverside Drive.  It is maintained by the Department of Public Works with the help of the town's Tourism & Beautification Committee.  Kirke Perry is the volunteer trail steward.

Assistance in maintaining the trails and related infrastructure (e.g., overlooks, foot bridges, etc.) is provided during the year by a variety of volunteers including Girl Scouts and the Adirondack Mountain Club / Laurentian Chapter.

Anyone wishing to assist with stewardship activities should contact the Town Clerk.

NEW story walk

On Monday, July 18 at 10am the town will celebrate the opening of a new StoryWalk sponsored by Friends of Hepburn Library Colton on its John Stone Trail. The public is invited to enjoy a quarter mile walk along the trail, stopping along the way to read posted pages from Turtle Splash: Countdown at the Pond by Cathryn Falwell.

StoryWalks provide opportunities for families, caregivers and school children to spend time in nature, get a bit of physical activity and enjoy a good book. The StoryWalk™ Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition (VBPC) and the Kellogg Hubbard Library.
