LOCal History

The Town of Colton was formed from the Town of Parishville on April 12, 1843.  It was the 27th town of St. Lawrence County created by the New York State Legislature.  Highlights of significant events and places are shared on the following pages.

Also since 2012, through the Sunday Rock Legacy Project (SRLP), local history is researched and celebrated each year.  Now in its 8th year, the 2019 SRLP continues to bring together three organizations—Colton Historical Society, Colton-Pierrepont Central School, and Grasse River Players—to pursue projects of historical, theatrical, and educational interest.   Currently the organizers are raising funds to support 2019 activities including the presentation of "The Tavern" during the week-long Colton Country Days celebration in July.  HERE is the form with options for contributing.
